19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
