The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
