Starting Tuesday, President Donald Trump touches down in the United Kingdom for an unprecedented return official trip.

Trump, who will be accompanied by his spouse, previously stayed by the late Queen Elizabeth II in the summer of 2019.

What is a Formal Visit?

A formal trip represents a ceremonial trip to the UK by the national leader.

Invitations are customarily extended at the invitation of the monarch, based on official recommendations.

In addition to their role as elaborate events with significant ceremony, officials employ these tours to advance national objectives.

Conventionally, commanders-in-chief in their final term—like President Trump—are not offered a formal invitation.

Rather, they receive an offer for tea or lunch with the royal figurehead, similar to former presidents Obama and Bush.

Nonetheless, in February, the head of government extended to Trump an royal summons during a White House meeting to review a UK-US trade deal.

The official stated the offer stood as a "remarkably significant" and "unprecedented" opportunity.

He noted it was a "tremendous privilege" to accept the invitation.

Timing for The President's State Visit?

The Trumps plan to touch down in the United Kingdom on the sixteenth of September and head back on Thursday 18 September.

King Charles is set to welcome the US leaders at the historic fortress.

This visit follows not long following the commander-in-chief's four days in the northern nation, where he met officials and toured his personal resorts.

Accompanying Trump are the top diplomat, Treasury Secretary, delegate, chief of staff and "other senior White House staff".

The president is arriving in the UK on his specially designed, state-of-the-art aircraft known as the official jet.

Upon arrival, the president travels in The Beast—an enhanced vehicle called "the presidential transport".

Although the president is scheduled to undertake a few trips by vehicle in the UK, he is expected to undertake the majority of his transport via helicopter—similar to during his trip to Scotland in last month.

The president is likely to bring a group of aircraft in tow including the official copter which, similar to the plane, does not refer to one vehicle but instead means any military helicopter carrying the president.

Safety protocols have been tightened in the past few days following the deadly attack of a conservative activist at a college in the state.
